Gait Abnormalities

Toe-walking, in-toeing, out-toeing and an uneven walk are all common as children find their feet, and a great many resolve on their own with time. Where a pattern persists, causes discomfort or affects how your child plays, it is worth assessing properly.

Patterns we assess

How we approach it

We watch your child walk and run, then assess movement and alignment through the feet, ankles, knees, hips and spine. Much of what we find is a normal stage of development, and the most useful thing we can do is tell you so and keep an eye on it over time.

Where we find restriction or asymmetry we can help with, we use gentle techniques and give you exercises to do at home. Where a pattern points to something structural or neurological, that belongs with a paediatrician, orthopaedic specialist or podiatrist, and we will refer you.
